Anton Van Der Mere

Crossover Classical Tenor

Anton van der Mere is a South African classical crossover tenor, songwriter, recording artist, actor, producer and director, based in Essex, United Kingdom.

 

Determined to have a strong academic foundation in addition to his musical inclination, he graduated from the University of Port Elizabeth (NNMU) with a LLB law degree in 2000. He simultaneously furthered his studies in acting and dance at the Stageworld Performing Arts School under Marlene Pietersen, and classical singing training with Erna Mayer at the University. He was very fortunate to perform for Queen Elizabeth II and then President Nelson Mandela on her majesties Royal Visit to South Africa in 1995.

 

Subsequently he furthered his training with André Howard at the University of Stellenbosch. Adamant to stay vocally fit and nurture his ability, he furthermore advanced his musical studies in the UK, undertaking master classes in vocal technique with Daniele Guerra at the Royal College of Music in London in 2014. 

As a performer, Anton had the fortunate opportunity to travel around the world performing in concerts and shows in the UK and Europe as well as show cast and headline act on the prestigious Carnival UK ships.

In 2009 and 2010 he moved to New York, doing concerts and shows in the Big Apple with great audience response to his natural tenor voice. He has acted in TV ads both in South Africa and abroad and has also done some Feature film acting.

 

In 2013 he was  scouted for both Britain’s Got Talent and UK X-Factor with his own composition: Vision.
